The Collegiate League of Palm Beaches has an exciting player joining them this summer. The powerful hitter, with an accurate arm; Daniel Axson, a 1B and 3B is ready to compete. He has a lot of confidence heading into the league and I had the wonderful opportunity to ask him a few questions. And, learn a little bit more about who Daniel Axson is.
When was the moment you fell in love with baseball?
Axson: I can’t remember the exact moment. From day one, I liked to play catch or go to batting practice. As a child, I was lucky to be surrounded by great coaches, who transferred their passion and love for baseball to me.
What expectations do you have this summer?
Axson: First of all, I like to meet new teammates and coaches and have great moments together. Of course, I want to compete and take advantage of every opportunity to become a better player. Secondly, working with Cressey Sport will help me with conditioning and strength.
What are you going to work on this summer?
Axson: I like to hit for power, so I will work on my batting speed and the explosion of my legs and torso.
What is one of the best pieces of advice you’ve received from a coach?
Axson: I’ve heard it from several coaches, “It starts with discipline”. And, discipline is a choice between what you want now and what you want most. Especially self-discipline helps athletes to achieve their dreams.
Who is your favorite baseball player of all time and why?
Axson: My favorite baseball player is Ronald Acuna Jr. He is a power right-handed batter, with a tremendous swing. He generates a lot of power with his big step and low body rotation.
What is your favorite baseball movie?
Axson: The Rookie. This baseball movie is a true story of an MLB player. During his minor league season, he had to retire from baseball due to an arm injury. Twelve years later, inspired by the boys he trains, he decides to come back to baseball and make his dream come true.
What is your favorite baseball stadium food?
Axson: I’ll take a hotdog. They are different in every stadium, but unique and delicious in their own way.
