Sharks are one of the most feared animals in the ocean and are a force to be reckoned with. They are large creatures who smell the blood of their prey and do not hesitate to strike. In the case of the CLPB, the Parkland Sharks (10-5) are one of the most feared teams in the league, as they do not hesitate to use their high-octane offense to stun their opponents. One Parkland Shark who has stood out so far this summer is first-baseman Andrew Curran, who is averaging .417 with 15 hits in 36 at-bats and 9 RBIs. I got a chance to interview Andrew about his approach and how he plans to move forward with his career.
All right, Andrew, thank you for taking time out of your day to be interviewed. First, where are you from? And how did you find out about the CLPB?
So I’m from Pennsylvania. The way I’ve thought about the CLPB, my head coach at Newmann University knew the head coach of the Parkland Sharks. He reached out to him and then the connection was made, and I agreed to play down here.
That’s good. Now how has your experience been so far with the CLPB, and what’s it like playing for Coach Dan Shwam and the Sharks?
I mean, through my college years, my three years of college I’d say by far, this is the most fun I’ve ever had. playing for Coach Shwam is an amazing opportunity. Just for the sole reason of the man’s been in pro ball for 20 to 25 years, if not longer, prior to coming here. We also have other head coaches who played and also coached in pro ball. All in all, it’s just a giant learning facet. I’m loving it.
That’s good. Now you’ve been hitting the ball very well, this summer. You’re hitting .417 in 36 at-bats, you got 9 RBIs. What is your hitting approach when you step up to the plate and what’s been working for you?
Mainly what I’ve been looking for in my approach is something I know I can take advantage of, and put good contact on the ball. The count doesn’t faze me, whether I’m deep in the count or if I’m ahead in the count. I’m still looking for a ball that I know I can drive regardless of where it’s thrown or what pitch it is.
Yeah, that’s definitely been working out for you so far. Now, this will be your senior year coming up at Neumann University. Do you have any goals for this year? And has the CLPB helped you in any way trying to achieve that goal?
Yes, I do have a couple of goals. One of them is to be named an all-conference player. And going off of that is winning the conference. past two years we kind of haven’t fulfilled what we’re capable of. And basically what I’ve been doing down here and what I’ve learned, I feel like I could take back and I’ll help the team. take that next step.
That’s awesome. I wish you good luck on your journey. Now, last question. Do you feel the Sharks can make a run to the championship? Do you think you and your team can get it done? And how do you plan to help your team win?
I definitely feel we have a very good chance at winning a championship in this league. There are a couple of things we need to fix first and I feel like this week they were mentioned. I feel like this week they’ll change. I can sit I feel like I can help contribute to that playoff run and hopefully a championship. I just need to continue to do what I’ve been doing at the plate and on the field and bring a winning attitude every single day that I’m on the field.
