Baseball is definitely not an easy game, and there are times when the game does not go your way. The Palm Beach Snowbirds, for example, are not playing at their fullest potential. They do have great players, however, and they are just a few sparks away from going on a run. One of the bright spots on the Snowbirds this summer has been left-handed pitcher Brandon Demma, who has a 1-0 record with just a 1.42 ERA in 19 innings pitched. Demma has been dicing up hitters and notching zeroes on a consistent basis this summer, and we discuss his recent success in this week’s spotlight interview.
All right, Brandon, thank you for taking time out of your day to be interviewed. First, where are you from? And how did you find out about the CLPB?
I am from Astoria, Queens, New York. I found out about the CLPB by just doing some research, I knew I wanted to come to play in Florida. So that’s got me to this league.
That’s good. Now how has your experience been so far with the CLPB, and what’s it like playing for Coach Wharton and the Snowbirds?
It’s definitely fun, you know, great weather here in Florida. And TJ is a great coach who keeps me on schedule.
That’s good. Now you’ve been pitching very well, this summer. You have a 1-0 record with a 1.50 ERA in 18 innings. What is your approach when you toe the mound and what’s been working for you?
My approach is basically just attacking hitters, you know. Stay ahead and just get my team off the fields as quickly as possible because I know it can be hot at some points.
Yeah, that’s definitely been working out for you so far. Now, you just recently graduated from Wagner University in Staten Island. Do you have any goals for this year? And has the CLPB helped you in any way trying to achieve that goal?
So I’m looking to pursue one more year down here. Another opportunity to keep playing the sport I love you know, and the league obviously done that and hopefully will continue to help me get to my next place as well.
Tell me about your journey a little bit. How you end up where you are now, college baseball-wise.
Yeah, you know, I committed to Pace University in high school. My parents and I didn’t feel like it was a great fit for me. So, I went to Wagner and had a great three years over there. But I knew I had one year left. I and my family always wanted to play in Florida. So, this is one of our goals. Come down here. Spread the name a little bit. And keep playing down here.
That’s awesome. I wish you good luck on your journey. Now, last question. You and I both know that the Snowbirds are not firing on all cylinders right now. They have lost 10 of their last 12 games. How do you and your team plan on turning it around and making a second half-run? Do you think you and your team can get it done? And how do you plan to help your team win?
Yes, the team obviously the team has a tough spot right now. We just got to stay together and stay confident. Keep showing up every day and give it a good shot and I’m just going to help whenever my name is called, go to the mound and put my team in a good place to win.
